What is Round Dancing? Round dancing is best described as choreographed ballroom dancing for couples. It is a social, non-competitive activity, for fun rather than competition. On the dance floor, choreography is directed verbally by a round dance cuer, enabling all couples on the floor to dance the same steps at the same time. There is no need to memorize routines and no prize for being perfect. Music and Rhythms Regular ballroom music is used including Waltz, Foxtrot, Cha Cha, Rumba, Jive, Two Step, West Coast Swing, and Tango; new rhythms are added as one progresses through the levels. Clothing We dress informally for classes. It is recommended to have a good pair of leather soled shoes. For visiting other clubs and special occasions, we generally dress up a little more. How do you get started? The dance season usually runs from September through to the end of April.
